Lubrizol's Thermal Management division produces the CompuZol™ Immersion Fluid Solution, a family of patented, hydrocarbon-based, non-toxic, single-phase fluids formulated for direct server immersion in high-density compute environments. The company publicly launched CompuZol in November 2021 in collaboration with immersion tank manufacturers Submer and GRC, then extended the line with CompuZol IM2015, a PFAS-free fluid developed for thermal transfer, material compatibility, and durability. In contrast to fluorocarbon-based alternatives, CompuZol fluids rely on non-toxic hydrocarbon chemistry. Lubrizol cites an estimated 30%-or-greater reduction in data center cooling costs versus conventional air-cooled configurations, attributing the differential to superior thermal conductivity and elimination of mechanical cooling components that drive server fan failures.

The company's partnership program has centered on validating CompuZol across Tier 1 server and cooling infrastructure platforms. In October 2022, Lubrizol and Intel jointly announced at the Open Compute Project Global Summit in San Jose what they described as the industry's first fully warrantied immersion-ready cooling solution, pairing an Intel Xeon- and Core-compatible immersion-ready server with CompuZol fluid following a multiyear collaboration. The joint warranty was designed to address a known adoption barrier: the absence of manufacturer coverage for servers deployed in liquid environments. In January 2023, Lubrizol and iXora announced a partnership to provide immersion cooling systems in data centers. In November 2024, Lubrizol and UNICOM Engineering announced a validated Tier 1 solution pairing UNICOM's XE9680-IR immersion-ready GPU platform with CompuZol IM2015, jointly tested against strict operational standards. Lubrizol has exhibited at the OCP Global Summit in consecutive years (2022, 2023) and conducted proof-of-concept trials within its own Wickliffe disaster recovery facility.

Beyond fluid sales, Lubrizol offers Fluid as a Service, a managed program covering on-site filling, periodic testing and analysis, and fluid reclamation to support lifecycle management and environmental compliance.

At the corporate level, Lubrizol employs approximately 7,000 to 8,800 people across operations on six continents. Berkshire Hathaway completed its acquisition of Lubrizol in September 2011 for approximately $9.7 billion in cash at $135 per share. In January 2026, the company pledged a multi-million-dollar campus investment in Wickliffe to consolidate more than 1,000 Northeast Ohio employees by 2028, the year Lubrizol marks its centennial.

With validated hardware pairings spanning Intel server and UNICOM GPU platforms, Lubrizol is broadening CompuZol's presence in single-phase immersion cooling as AI server thermal densities push more data center operators toward liquid cooling alternatives.
