Business Description

Hashrate Index, the data and research platform operated by Seattle-based Luxor Technologies (founded 2017), tracks Bitcoin hashprice, ASIC market pricing, mining pool activity, and mining-stock performance for participants across the proof-of-work industry.

Luxor launched Hashrate Index in 2020 as part of a broader suite of Bitcoin mining tools built by co-founders CEO Nick Hansen, COO Ethan Vera, CTO Eddie Wang, and CPO Guzman Pintos. The platform's core product is the Bitcoin Hashprice Index, which quantifies expected USD and BTC rewards per petahash per second per day using a 144-block lagging simple moving average for transaction fees and a spot-price average drawn from three U.S.-based exchanges. A companion ASIC Price Index tracks weekly asking prices across three hardware efficiency tiers. Additional dashboards cover Bitcoin mining pool block production, an ASIC specification database, a mining profitability calculator, and a Bitcoin mining stocks tracker surfacing price, market cap, hashrate, and trading volume for publicly listed miners.

Hashrate Index publishes a weekly newsletter (the Hashrate Index Roundup) that grew 68% to more than 13,000 readers in 2023, with 90 editions distributed that year. A premium subscription tier provides weekly ASIC clearing-price data and API access to the 15-second hashprice settlement rate underlying Luxor's non-deliverable forward (NDF) contracts.

The platform sits within Luxor Technologies' full-stack mining infrastructure business. The company runs a globally distributed FPPS Bitcoin mining pool that reached 16.9 EH/s by end of 2023, 73% year-over-year growth, and mined 10,939 Bitcoin across 1,633 blocks that year, equivalent to approximately $326 million. In May 2024, Luxor and Chicago-based Bitnomial launched Bitcoin Hashrate Futures (ticker: $HUP) on Bitnomial's CFTC-regulated exchange, the first Bitcoin mining derivative to trade on a regulated U.S. venue; contracts carry 1 PH sizes with monthly durations. Luxor's ASIC trading desk, expanded to GPUs in 2024 to support miners deploying AI and HPC infrastructure, executed a $131.4 million purchase-and-options agreement with MicroBT in December 2024.

Luxor raised a $725,000 pre-seed round from backers including Argo Blockchain and Bitnomial, followed by a $5 million Series A in June 2021 led by NYDIG. In November 2022, Hivemind and Black Creek Digital joined as strategic investors alongside NYDIG, Bentaus, and Bitsure. Total disclosed funding stands at approximately $5.72 million across two formal rounds. The Bitnomial hashrate futures partnership and the MicroBT hardware agreement position Luxor as one of the few mining-sector firms bridging real-time data publishing, regulated derivatives, and physical ASIC distribution under one platform.
